It gives us great pleasure to announce that the South African firm Readymade, owned by Tasos and Anya Calantzis, has made it through to the semi-finals of the INDEX Awards. This competition was started by the Danes in 2005, happens every other year, and is dedicated to design of any type that helps people.

D-A-P nominated Readymade’s Safer Paraffin Distribution System, a concept intended to reduce both fire and poisoning accidents among families who depend upon kerosene for light and cooking, and Readymade, the only African nominee to get this far, now has a 1:17 chance of winning a $125,000 prize. We’re pulling for you guys!

Also happening in Africa, our friends Niki Dun and Sue Fairburn of Design for Development write to announce their bicycle ambulance project in Namibia. Please lend your support to them if you can.
