Since June, Wang Jing in Nanjing and AGI member Robert Appleton in Toronto have been working on an international exhibition of design, art and music to benefit the survivors of the Sichuan earthquake. It opens in Nanjing this Sunday for one week only. “5:12 CHINA’S MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE. A COMMEMORATIVE EXHIBITION.” includes works donated by over 200 individuals across the globe.
Contributors include Niklaus Troxler, Pierre Bernard, Kari Piippo, Melchior Imboden, Ben Bos, Michael Mabry, Peter Good, Rick Valicenti, Randall Enos, Robert Appleton and a host of Chinese designers including Wang Xu, Cao Fang, Pan Qin and many others whose work has never been seen outside China before. The work was donated and sent at the contributor’s own cost, out of sheer empathy and a desire to contribute to the survivors of this massive natural disaster. Appleton and Jing intend to bring the exhibition to Toronto next. It’s a remarkable collection of works of passion. The website also includes a composition specifically created for this event by English pianist Veryan Weston and performed by Veryan on piano and Mandy Drummond on violin. Appleton calls this exhibition “a perfect global response to tragedy and our greatest hope for the future.” Please remember that If like me you can’t actually be in Nanjing this Sunday to experience the opening of 5:12 CHINA’S MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE, you can attend virtually by visiting the website and leaving your comments and good wishes for it’s success in raising funds for the earthquake survivors here.
